Nepenthes Izumiae

Nepenthes izumiae is a stunning new species found by David and Clarke on the same trip that led to the discovery of N. jacquelineae in Sumatra. N. izumiae is genetically related to N. singalana and especially the more stunning and recent species discovery, N. lingulata. Charles Clarke, one of the founders of N. izumiae, featured the plant as 'species B' in his book titled "Nepenthes of Sumatra". The pitcher coloration is a very stunning, nearly black with a rich black, toothy peristome and a nicely contrasting white interior.

Izumiae Care and Cultivation

N. izumiae grows well in typical highland conditions of 70-80° F during the day, 50-60° F at night and high humidity. It is generally an epiphytic species and can be often be found inhabiting tree limbs in mossy forests. As a result, it will appreciate an airy, well draining soil mixture or living long fibered sphagnum moss. An equal mixture of dried sphagnum moss and perlite is an excellent mix. Some growers have even reported success with more intermediate conditions as well.
