Nepenthes carunculata is an endemic highland species to Sumatra. N. carunculata and N. bongso have similar morphology and some feel they should be treated as the same species.

Carnivorous Plant Varieties of N. carunculata

N. carunculata var. robusta is a large, robust variety. This variation has a large, flared peristome and the leaves can be 2 and a half times as long and wide as N. carunculata.
